What's on my desk? Part 82.

Hello and welcome,

Last week of July, and the weather is turning to rain and decent temperatures. Perfect modelling conditions!

Service announcement: I've had lot of demand, so I'm organizing a second airbrush basics workshop on the 24th of August (a Sunday). Registration mandatory!

My BT has received a light oil dot treatment, and the tow cables & tools have been installed:

Tow cables were made with some left-over copper cable from the Tortoise and the painting process was exactly the same: prime black - paint Gun Metal, wash with Streaking Rust, add a few spots of Light Rust Wash and install when not quite dry, so my fingers rub off some of the rust and the metal shows through in places.

Still to do: dust and rain marks, rust the exhausts, weather the tracks to tie them in to the dirty muddy underside.

On to the Williams. I thought I fixed the oopsie with the rear suspension breaking. Turns out it wasn't:
The right side is clearly angled too high. I found one of the retaining rods on the underside (the diagonal one behind the axle) was pushing it up, so I pried that one loose and re-set the entire thing. It's now more or less back in alignment.

The engine is now basically done, apart from some light weathering.
There's some nice raised detail showing 'Renault F1' lettering. I picked this out with some Light metal drybrush paint and some Silver oilbrusher:
The air filters were washed with Dark Wash and drybrushed with light metal. The breather on top of the engine was painted flat black and drybrushed with gun metal.
The air intake on top of the body is in two parts and then needs to be glued to the body, so I filled the seams and sanded it smooth:
Now, this entire upper part of the body will be painted yellow. Yellow is notoriously difficult to paint, as it will always remain a bit translucent. Any imperfection in the base will always be visible. I primed both parts of the body with two coats of white primer, to get a perfectly even base for the yellow:
.
Finally, Thierry is almost finished. I painted his overall in shades of blue (Citadel Kantor Blue and Macragge Blue, lightened with Corax White). The blue will need an extra layer to unify the shadows & highlights and lower the contrast a bit. His belts were painted XF-7 Flat Red in several coats, with a bit of gloss varnish on the shoulders where the decals will go.
The helmet was already gloss black, so I started on the decals going over it. These are still good, even though they're about 35 years old now, and very receptive to Micro Sol to help them settle over the curves. This is good news, because most of the body will be covered in large decals...
Lots of painting and decalling ahead!

That's all for now.
See you next week!
