What's on my desk? Part 49.

Hello there!

This Sunday, December 15, there's the BSMC show in Putte. It's free and I'll be there as a trader. If you'd like me to bring something you're interested in, shoot me an email. Alternatively, if buying online, you can select 'store pickup' and let me know you'd like to pickup at the show.

This Wednesday is the last wargaming session of the year, next week will be the last build meet. I'll be closed on December 25 and January 1st; on December 24 and December 31 I'll be closing early (around 4pm-ish).

On to the builds then.

The Tortoise has been primed with a Vallejo rattle can. I'm thinking about bringing a compressor and airbrush into the shop so I can spray paint some stuff.

The Daimler is coming along nicely. The interior is basically finished, apart from some more weathering. I glued the sidewalls at the middle and front of the vehicle first, which left a bit of a gap in the rear.

As they're sitting at an angle, it's rather difficult to clamp/rubberband them down while the cement dries. So I used some tape to hold the pieces together and used Tamiya Extra Thin on the outside.

The engine compartment isn't detailed, so I can just leave the tape on.

Next up are the cannon rounds. Painted with black primer, then Ammo 197 Brass. As they're stored tip-down in the racks, it's not necessary to paint them completely. One of the ammo racks came loose, so I took the opportunity to wrap some tape around the part and hide the gap left by my clumsy PE bending. When painted Aluminium, it looks better than before.

So here's the interior as it is now:

(I missed a spot of paint on top of the rear steering wheel...)

Pity that there aren't enough rounds to completely fill the racks.

Far from perfect, but it looks pretty decent.

Now for the hard part. The suspension springs are insane. They and the fittings on the hull are made up of 26 small and tiny parts in plastic and PE. Here's the relevant page in the instructions, with the completed part showing its size. There's another page like this to complete the assembly.

This is one of these areas where everything fits together remarkably well in the end, but you need an extra hand to actually get it all together. Having learned a lesson from the Tortoise suspension, I didn't paint the parts in advance, except for the inner springs, which I sprayed black.

When mounted on the hull, they do look great:

Oh yeah, more tiny parts are coming when the wheels are added. 9 more pieces, to be exact, plus three parts for the wheels themselves...

That's it.

See you next week!
